GAMSAT Discussion :: Gamsat -what is a good raw score?? :: Reply by Lovebite

Hi Charlie.

Here's the drum. No score you get in the GAMSAT will tell you if you're "smart enough". You have to decide for yourself whether you're up to it, and whether its worth pursuing.

My honest advice for you, is to forget about the numbers, and just keep studying, right up until the exam. Whether you get 50% or 80%, the smart money is to keep working anyway.

As for the scores you're reporting, I remember getting similar section III scores in the first month.... and ended up getting a GAMSAT of 64. Mind you, I was doing a little better in section I and II but its still not a bad place to start.

Once you feel like you're across the material for the exam, start working on your timing..... Timing is without doubt, the key to a great GAMSAT experience....

Since I live in the UK would you be prepared to have a look at some essays if I emailed them?

Cheers, no worries if not

Hi,

I'm sitting the gamsat in March 2011, and have been doing a few practice questions over the last week. I fully understand that a "good" GMSAT score is 55-60 in total but does anyone know how this score is manufactured?
Ive been hitting about 50-60% for section three questions, about the same for section 1. Is this really really poor, or not too bad considering its my first week of practice? Bascially I'm trying to establish if I'm smart enough, I don't want to continue getting 60% if 60% only equates to a GAMSAT score of 40?

Hope that makes sense!!

Charlie

Hey guys,

I'm available for section II tutoring if anyone needs help.

I scored 80/100 in 2010 for section II.

I have a Ba.Communications from UWS and majored in journalsim.

I live around Sydney, CBD area. I can drive to meet you, or go to a library if it suits. Or, if you live inter-state I can provide tutoring over skype.

I have developed what I think is a good strategy to creating an essay out of a statement, and interweaving it with relevant social issues. This seems to be what they like..

I did not bother to write a discursive essay, an expository essay or an agressive argumentative essay in 2010. I just wrote 2 very simply structured essays that clearly portrayed my position and cherry-picked a few social-type issues to stitch in..

Anyway, I know a lot of people don't take section II seriously, and are disappointed later..

Hello, I'm Amy.

I'm 23, have been an RN for nearly three years and have spent two and a half of those working in Emergency. Eventually I plan to become an Emergency Physician.

I work in Melbourne, have spent some time working in Darwin and in three weeks I am moving to Alice Springs to work in the Emergency Department there. I plan to sit the Gamsat in 2011 (providing I actually get some study/preparation done whilst in Alice Springs rather than just frying my brain and liver with alcohol) - I'm currently struggling most with section 1!

I just found this website and I have to say, it's interesting reading about different people's backgrounds and why people have decided to study medicine. Best of luck to everyone! Smile

Hello, I am an Irish medic. It has been a while since I won my battle with gamsat but I do remember the days leading up to the exam and realize how focused people must be with only days to go before gamsat UK in Melbourne.

If you have worn out your sample material from Acer, you might be interested in more practice. I do have a practice test for anyone interested. See my link for more info. I'm happy to give free access over the next few days, to the complete exam to anyone interested.

A lot of people lose track of time in the exam, or get drawn into a particular question. I think practice is the cure for that.

Regards and good luck.

GAMSAT Discussion :: GAMSAT 2011 - Dublin, Ireland, Anyone? :: Posted by jimg

Hi All,

I was just wondering if anybody here is planning to sit the GAMSAT exams in Dublin next march?

Im a 28 year old computer-science grad with 5 years industry experience in software development now looking to go back to study grad entry medicine. So no real academic biology/chemistry background whatsoever, just an ever growing interest in medical/pharmacology reading in my spare time over the past few years.

So if anyone is planning on sitting the exam next March, what preparation material are you using? how are you finding it?

Any thoughts, recommendations, suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

Mate....

take your time, and read the question. Technically, you should be able to work out the answer with little/no formal training. The problem you face though, is one of time.

Worst case, use this year as a practice run, then do more prep for 2011!
