Saw on the PD forum that Medprep is giving away sample interview prep material for free. I requested it from Medprep today (go to the interview page on the Medprep website and see how to get it) and just received the material by email. I think the stuff is very helpful because it offers specific instructions on how to approach ethical and other types of MMI stations and then gives a heap of example MMI stations with sample answers. Free is good!!!

At this point in the process, things are very competitive and this can sometimes encourage competitor candidates to provide misleading advice about interviews. This has been my unfortunate experience. The medprep stuff has really lowered by anxiety levels by making the expectations clear. Also the PD forum offers loads of interview advice from successful people who are now medical students.

One or two weeks til most interview offers are made. . . Yikes!

I will attempt the GAMSAT in 2011. I have read many of the comments on various materials that are on the market. Has anyone used the GOLD STANDARD package by Dr Brett Ferdinand ?

I do not know where to begin my studies on this but I have narrowed it down to this and medprep international.

Can anyone advise based on experience keeping in mind that I have not studied anything for almost 20 years.

UQ relies solely on your GAMSAT (with GPA of 5.5 only as a hurdle). Reason being that UQ doesn't have interviews so everybody who is worried abt an interview and/or have a high gamsat score all apply there. The gamsat cutoffs are (from last year):

64 for BMP
67 for CSP

- i know ridiculously high right! So id say Griffith instead of UQ (cutoff for griffith interview is 59-60) BUT remember, you've got a really good GPA and you don't wanna waste it so apply to uni's that take GPA into consideration when they are sending out offers. I have a GPA of 6.5 and theres no way id apply to either UQ or Griffith. I'm looking into ANU or UWA (both weigh GPA quite highly, as high as 50%).

Good on you for wanting to do GAMSAT again! i'm doing it again as well. Its a good idea to do it again :) and well done on ur GPA. If i were you, id defn consider using that to my advantage :)

hi i have looked at the acer tests and ozimed papers and find it very dificult to get an essay topic from the quotes..

any advice on how to get a good essay title/topic from reading the quotes???

hello everyone, im a second yr medical student marjor in medicinal chemistry.

this is my first time sitting for GAMSAT. so i dont knowwhich aread im good at yet, since i havent buy any books yet. but from the look of it, i might enjoy section III more than section I and II, cos im not good at english..

lol. hope someone could help me with those two sections. ill be very happy.

im new here, and i havent sit for GAMSAT yet. Can anyone help me by recommending what types of book i should buy? i do hav a science background, cos im currently doing Med Sci.

GAMSAT results should be released sometime around May next year. and yes, the results for all the subjects would be released at the same time. about the interview, that depends on the individual universities. they would decide on their respective cut-offs, which vary from year to year, and depending on the score, they would be shortlisting the interview candidates. so, it should be done by the end of May or at maximum the month after that.

you have not mentioned if you are an international student. if you are, there is no need to calculate your GPA. If you are an Australian, here are the links which should answer all your GPA related queries. you can also visit the official website of the ANU to find out what their required percentage is for the subject you wish to apply for.

I did the Gamsat last year and my scores were
SI=57
SII= 55
SIII= 62
overall =59
i haven't actually finished my degree yet so i haven't applied for medicine this year, but intend to apply next year (i also hope to do the GAMSAT again next year and try and improve my score).
My GPA currently stands at i think it is 6.7
So i have 2 questions to anyone out there willing to offer an opinion:

1. What do you think my chances are of getting into medicine and where would be the best place to apply? (I would like to study medicin in SE QLD ie. UQ or Griffith uni but honestly i'm really willing to move anywhere that will take me).

2. I would like to improve my GAMSAT score, i study a BSc, so i have a pretty good idea of science, and am hoping that SIII will improve now that i have an idea of what the test is like, but what i'm asking is does anyone have any tips how to improve the essay section? and what really is the best way to write an essay (considering that they don't give you much information)?
