GAMSAT Discussion :: non English background??? :: Posted by Sue

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010
Hi, guys!
has anyone known of people who have successed or even tried in the GAMSAT?
I've been working as a nurse for 3 years and I love my job, but I just can not stop thinking about being a doctor.

I am from non English speaking background, and only have been in Australia for 5yrs.... As I know the GAMSAT needs good vocabulary and reading skills for section 1 and 2, it seems big challenge for me.......

advice??

Who cares about age? Go for it if you really want it. You probably have a lot to bring (and after reading lots of forums it does seem that there's alot of 'older' medical students nowadays which makes sense as the GAMSAT is for graduates anyway). Good luck!

Hello everyone,

I was wondering what everyone thought about age and the GAMSAT? Is 29 too old to begin again? I'm currently a final year social work student; but I do have a passion for medicine.

Any thoughts??

mmmm its would be questionable. You'd want late 60's or 70's to really have a good chance.

I'm not saying you're no chance, just suggesting you're not a 'shoe in'

good luck.

ok so my scores were:

S1 = 59
S2 = 55
S3 = 74
Overall = 65

I read on Melbourne uni's selection criteria that they will eight all 3 sections equally, giving me an overall score of something like 62.

I am actually quite pleased with this since i didn't do any courses or buy the exam prep questions from acer. obviously my english areas let me down a bit but i was wondering how were my chances? 65 put me at a percentile ranking of 90% so I assume that is fairly good, but i know how competitive this is, especially for Melbourne uni entry.
