Not too sure where I stand, but I would really appreciate any comments on what my chances would be with:
SI: 54
SII: 62
SIII:63
Overall: 60

GPA:6.97
for let say USyd or UMelb? =[

USyd interviews for people over 62, so I'm not sure whether a 60 would give me a chance..
UMelb weights GAMSAT (each section equal), GPA and the Interview equally, so that brings the GAMSAT further down to 59 =(

Any critical comments are welcome!

Hi Sue.

I can't stress enough how important your english communication skills are not only for GAMSAT, but more importantly for being a Doctor.

you'll be communicating incredibly difficult information, as well as needing to be able to read and interpret results and reports quickly, and you'll also need to understand fast and important information from senior doctors and fellow colleagues.

If I were you, I'd spend a year or two working really hard on not only comprehension, but also working on conversational english until you're able to talk not only fluently, but also understand the nuances of the language.

If your english is average/poor, and you happen to get through GAMSAT, then you'll find it hard at interview. You'll also struggle in the clinical environment with your history taking, and differential discussions.

Don't give up your dreams.... just make sure you're properly prepared Smile

Hey man, I'm 30 (now) but sat the GAMSAT this year as a 29 year old.

I dunno, I did some study but nothing crazy. Mostly Youtube to be honest. I got a pretty decent score.

I think you just have to want to do it and then you find the time. The organic chem, biology, everythign really was a thril and fun to me. It never seemed like work.

So go for it I reckon Smile Age shouldn't stop ya.

EDIT : Oh I'm a computer programmer by the way and have no chem/biol experience. I took Chem and Physics to Yr 12 (did engineering physics and math at uni) but never touched biology even at high school

Of course,

Not only is sitting GAMSAT valuable experience for the application process, but you might surprise yourself with your result. If you are worried about your age, don't be. Smile

A friend of mine enrolled in a science bridging course the semester before he sat GAMSAT. Pretty much straight Chem, Physics and Bio, to both raise his GPA and get him ready for section 3.

Dep's absolutely right - age is irrelevant and your additional experience will come in very handy. If you skim through the various posts, you'll see that 29 is definitely on the "young" side of the spectrum, so don't worry about that. If you're really interested in studying medicine, just give it a go. I think the worst feeling would be to not pursue something because of a minor issue/concern, and then regret it for the rest of your life.
